Day 30 - Share a link to either your NaNo profile or a location on the internet where your story can be found. If someone offered to beta read for you, would you be willing to do the same for them during the subsequent editing process?
It can be read (so far) here!
As for beta, I’m sure there are lovely people who would love to help beta what I have so far. Being that it’s not done, I’d say it would be marvelous to HAVE a beta but they’d have to be able to beta for awhile. And I’d love to beta back, I’m a bit of a grammar and spelling nazi so I’d probably do a good job.
Day 29 - Name one thing in which you indulged as a treat to keep yourself motivated and writing that you wouldn’t otherwise have done.
Hrm. I haven’t really done anything like that. Though I’ve taken up art again!
Day 24 - Is religion featured in your novel at all? If so, which ones? If it’s/they’re your own creations, describe it/them and how it/they play(s) a part in your characters’ lives.
There’s no real set religion. The tribe, of course, prays to the Earth and thanks it for everything that it has given. They also have prayer songs, but not to any certain deity. I think if there was an actual religion, Sevotha would have most likely ‘encouraged’ her people to stray away from it.
Day 25 - What are the names of at least two of your main characters? How did you choose their names?
Imani was easily named. As she’s part African, part Russian I wanted a African name to go with her Russian middle and last names. I also wanted something that would fit in with the future and the people that she would meet there.
Speaking of, then there’s Kedae and Sevotha. Both names are versions of names I found on a random fantasy name generator. Sevotha is actually named after the Sevo creature, a flying dragon like beast who is the closest thing to a good luck charm there is in the future.
Day 22 - If you’ve participated in or won NaNo before, what happened to your other novel efforts? Still in the revision process/querying publishers/scrapped it immediately/etc.
They’ve all sort of been tossed to the side as of yet. nothing I want to publish.
Day 21 - With about 10 days left to this arguably traumatic experience, what are your plans and goals for your novel, should you successfully complete it?
I honestly don’t know. It would be nice to publish it but most publishers don’t accept something that’s 50k…
Day 20 - If you could meet one fictional character from any book you’ve ever read, who would it be, and why?
Oh my GOD WHY WOULD YOU EVEN ASK THAT QUESTION. WHERE THE HELL DO I BEGIN?!
Okay I’m done too many feels and not enough brain. I’m really sorry to whoever read this.
Also books(series) mentioned are: The Vampire Lestat Series, Catch 22, Harry Potter, The Vampire Lestat Series and Armand, Alice In Wonderland, The Lord Of The Rings, WoW books/graphic novels, Sherlock Holmes, Good Omens, The Dark Tower Series, MARVEL comics and The Witching Hour.
Day 19 - Which authors or books have inspired your own writing the most, and why?
This list in infinite. The ones that pop immediately to mind though are Ray Bradbury, Steig Larsson, Anne Rice, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling and others. I’m also heavily inspired by actors, directors and musicians and models though. Tim Burton, 30 Seconds To Mars, Lady GaGa, Veela, Helena Bonham Carter, Ophelia Overdose, My Chemical Romance, Quentin Taratino, Ridley Scott, etc.
Truly infinite.
Day 18 - Who is the antagonist in your novel? What drives their actions?
Actually at the moment I am running without an antagonist. I suppose maybe the Earth? Or in a way, Imani herself? Yes, the heroine can also be the antagonist.
Also 30k! WOOOO!
Day 17 - In what time period is your novel set? Is it in this world or another?
It’s set in this world. The first part is in the year 2337. The second part is in the year 3008.
Day 16 - At around the half-way point, it bears mentioning that most of us wrimos have other obligations beside simply hitting that elusive word count. What else do you have going on in your life (work, school, children, neurotic pets, etc.), and just how much are you shafting it to win NaNo?
Uh, at the moment not much. It is summer!
